FUN RUN – change of day/date – now Friday 27 May

RE: FUN RUN – change of day/date

Firstly, I would like to thank each whanau for the support we have received so far with the FUN RUN fundraiser. The $20,694 we currently have on the Give-a-little page is an indication of the generosity of our community to work alongside us. I feel so proud of our ākonga and how they have embraced the challenge of getting to $25 000.

Unfortunately, the logistics are not on our side. Since the original date for the Fun Run was decided on, many other things appeared on the calendar meaning that a few of our staff will not be at school tomorrow. We reflected that this does not send a supportive message to the ākonga – our teachers want to be there to encourage them at the Fun Run.

So we decided it was best to postpone the Fun Run to Friday 27 May at 1:30. The weather also looks a little more friendly on Friday.

Reminder – students are to come in full school uniform as usual for morning lessons on Friday, and bring their PE gear/Rōpū colours/towel/change of clothes/money for sausage sizzle/snacks etc, for the Fun Run in the afternoon.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Noho ora mai, Nākūiti nei, nā

We have had a great term and we are looking forward to having a break to re-energise.

Just a heads up that it has come to our attention that a student set up a MIS TIK TOK account encouraging others to say mean things. This is not OK. We investigated and are trying to shut it down.

However, it is possible there are others. Please take the time over the holidays to check your child’s social media apps. We want everyone to have a safe and happy break.

Change in lunchtimes

We will trial a new lunchtime procedure starting in Week 11 (last week of term)

It will mean that we ask that if you collect your child at lunchtime, you come a little bit earlier (12:20). The lunchtime change will not affect students who need to eat at a specific time because of medication.

COVID – Latest Maidstone info

Tue Mar 15 01:31pm

Kia ora koutou

Here is the latest COVID information:

– We have 73 students (14%) who are not at school because they tested positive

– We have 23 students (4%) isolating because somebody else in the household is sick

– We have two staff members (non-teachers) isolating because a member of the household is positive

Although not always easy, we find that the collaborative approach of staff makes it still possible to carry on with the focus on learning at school. However, please feel free to contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you need more information about the online learning programme each syndicate has.

I would like to share the following information with all

Testing before coming back after 7 days of isolating

The official information is: You do not need a test to leave isolation. If you do, the result would likely show as positive but that does not mean you are infectious. If you are still sick, stay home until you are well and for 24 hours after your symptoms resolve.

What to do when somebody in the household tests positive just as you are ready to stop the 7 days isolation

You can come back to school. You do not have to start isolate for another 7 days.

COVID – Help please

Mon Mar 14 08:09pm

Kia ora koutou,

Currently we have a number of Admin staff away due to COVID. We would therefore appreciate your help and support over the next few days with the following:

– Please avoid phoning the school, unless it is an emergency, and email instead to:

– Email the homeroom teacher and to report any absence (COVID related absences included)

– Please do not send any students with symptoms to school. We will only be able to attend to serious cases in the medical room. Should a child feel sick, the homeroom teacher will call parents to collect the child.

Thank you for your continued support at this challenging time.

Teacher Only Day

Thu Mar 10 02:31pm

A reminder

Monday 14 March is Teacher Only Day

Tue Mar 01 03:59pm

Kia ora e te whanau

We are seeking your support as it has come to our attention that some students in our school are participating in a viral tik tok challenge that involves deliberately hyperventilating until they lose their breath and then a friend pushing on their chest which causes them to faint.

Can you please talk to your children about the dangers of doing this and ask them to not get involved and also encourage them to tell a teacher if they hear anyone talking about doing it/or how to do it.

This is raising serious concerns for the safety and wellbeing of our students because it can lead to serious health complications such as concussion, convulsions etc.

Thank you for talking to your children and helping us to keep them safe.
