Visual Arts
In Visual Arts, ākonga will be introduced to the key elements and principles and how they can interpret and demonstrate understanding in their own artwork.
Ākonga will be introduced to the key skills and processes including; the creative process, composition techniques with a variety of mediums, three dimensional depth, colour theory, and different art genres. They will research to enhance their creativity and encourage more independent work.
In the Year 7 programme, the ākonga will learn the seven key elements of art. The elements consist of Line, Space, Shape, Form, Colour, Value, Texture, developing a basic understanding of how they can apply and interpret these into their own artwork.
The Year 8 programme involves ākonga learning the key principles of Art, developing an understanding on how they can apply and identify these within their own Artwork.
All ākonga will be assessed in both their skills in using certain mediums and their knowledge of both the elements and principles. Each year they will study topics based on New Zealand history, famous myths and legends and famous artists from New Zealand and the rest of the world.
