Hinepōhatu Kapa Haka

Hinepōhatu Kapa Haka is open to all, and encouraged by classroom kaiako. For one block a week the hall is open to anyone who wants to come along and learn to perform a range of waiata and haka. Some of the waiata and haka may already be known by the students. Each session starts and ends with a karakia, and ākonga learn about tikanga and discipline of performance.

On Monday afternoons, those who have a passion for kapa haka are invited to an after kura practice each week.

Our kapa haka rōpū represent Maidstone at the big Te Ora Atamira Festival show casing our tikanga and passion for māori arts. The kapa haka rōpū will spend most the year in preparation for this festival with practising waiata and haka.

Other school events:

With a strong kapa haka force Maidstone is always ready with a performance on hand. Maidstone’s kapa haka rōpū are at any event, from our start of year Pōwhiri to the many cultural days our Upper Hutt community holds.
