Sport At Maidstone

Lunch Time Sport

Throughout the year classes and rōpū compete in different sports during our lunch time competition. This is a great way for all ākonga to get involved and have some fun. Lunchtime sport is lead by our Sports Leaders and has something for everyone

Maidstone Athletic Development (MAD)

MAD (Maidstone Athletic Development) academy is a program designed to extend our athletes. This purpose of this program is to:
    • Develop athletes to raise their potential in sport
    • Give ākonga the skills in order to develop their own training programmes and build an awareness of what it will take to be successful in sport.
    • Use the MIS values and key competencies to build positive role models
    • Develop knowledge and understanding of Physical Literacy - the motivation, confidence and physical competence to take responsibility for engaging in physical activity and sport.

Selections for MAD are held during Term 1 and the programme runs throughout the year. We select 30 ākonga and there is a cost involved. It is expected that ākonga who are in MAD are developing their own fitness and skills in their own time. Furthermore, it is an expectation that ākonga are trialing for inter-kura sports teams and are wanting to represent our kura.
