Sport At Maidstone
Toa Whakaihuwaka
Our annual Lower North Island sporting competition provides our kura an opportunity to compete against intermediates from Taranaki, Manawatū, Wairarapa and Wellington. With over 14 intermediates and 570 athletes competing, it is a significant event in our sporting calendar. The event is held in Term 4 and includes basketball, football, netball and rugby.
Sports Exchanges
Maidstone Intermediate has a few sports exchanges over the year and takes alternate turns hosting these. We have an exchange with Masterston Intermediate which includes netball and rugby 7s. We also have an exchange with Wainuiomata Intermediate which includes 10 different codes.
AIMS Games
AIMS Games is the highlight for many on the sporting calendar! Maidstone Intermediate attends each year, and has previously taken Basketball, Netball, Football, Sevens, and individual athletes. AIMS Games are an awesome opportunity for us to test ourselves against the best Intermediate-age teams across New Zealand. Teams are selected at the start of the year, and then compete in the games in Term 3. They train and have many practice games leading up to the games.
