Why An Intermediate?
We are a kura designed to cater for the specific needs of 11, 12 & 13 year olds. Our programmes are designed for this age group, our kaiako love teaching this age group and our spaces are set up for this age group.
Early adolescence is a unique time in life and a real bridge between childhood and early adulthood. Maidstone, like all intermediate schools in NZ, is set up to engage, inspire and cater for the complex needs of early adolescents.
Ask any Maidstone ākonga what they like most about kura and they will most-likely say “The OPPORTUNITIES”. Intermediate is a great place to try new things and discover new talents!

Seek and discover. Discover and know. Know and become enlightened.
Our Location and History
Maidstone Intermediate is situated in park-like grounds just south of Upper Hutt City overlooked by the Akatarawa, Remutaka and Tararua Ranges.
The kura is approximately 30 minutes north-east of Wellington, and on the doorstep of many facilities and community centres such as H2O Xtream, Kaitoke Regional Park, Whirinaki Arts and Entertainment Centre and Staglands Wildlife Reserve.
The Maidstone name comes from the town of Maidstone in Kent (England) where a group of Upper Hutt settlers came from. The school opened in 1970.
